Bangkok, Thailand, June 15-18, 2026 – The 3rd Global Audiovisual Archiving (GAVA) Conference will be hosted by the Thai Film Archive (Public Organisation). GAVA is a biennial international platform for dialogue and collaboration in audiovisual archiving, guided by an advisory board of archivists and scholars. Following successful editions in Amsterdam (2022) and Toronto (2024), the conference bridges cultural, institutional, and economic divides across the global archival community.

FOCAL International Awards: June 18 2026, at Church House Westminster, London, UK. The FOCAL International Awards is an annual ceremony held in London that celebrates excellence in footage research, archive management, and the use of archive and stock footage in film, television, and media productions.

Thessaloniki, Greece, 12 to 17 Jul 2026 – The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) will hold its annual Congress in Thessaloniki, marking IAML’s 75th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of its Greek Branch. This historic city of one million people, with over 2,300 years of history and 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offers a rich multicultural heritage spanning Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras. The Congress will feature professional sessions, workshops, concerts of Byzantine and Greek music, an exhibition of Byzantine music manuscripts spanning 1,000 years, and tours to archaeological sites including Vergina and Dion at the foot of Mount Olympus.

FIAT/IFTA World Conference: October 6 2026, in São Paulo, Brazil. The FIAT/IFTA World Conference brings together audiovisual archive professionals globally for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The 2026 edition will be hosted by Cinemateca Brasileira. Every four years, the conference takes place outside Europe, reflecting the federation’s international commitment and the diverse realities of the global archival community.

Joint Technical Symposium 2026 (JTS 2026) October 19–22, The Joint Technical Symposium (JTS) For audiovisual preservation professionals. Sharing technical advances and expertise in preserving image and sound materials across all formats.

Worldwide, October 27, 2026 – World Day for Audiovisual Heritage celebrates the preservation of sound recordings and moving images globally. Proclaimed by UNESCO in 2005, the date commemorates UNESCO’s 1980 “Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images,” the first international instrument recognizing the cultural and historical importance of audiovisual recordings. Archives worldwide mark the day with activities highlighting the vulnerability of audiovisual heritage and the essential work of institutions that protect it. The event is organized in cooperation with the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA).
